The famed Chihuahua-Pacific Train, affectionately known as the "Chepe" due to its initials (Ch of Chihuahua and P of Pacífico), has been delighting tourists for around 50 years now. This remarkable route still captivates travelers from every corner of the globe, even in the XXI century. The Chepe offers a unique opportunity to witness an array of microclimates, explore enchanting historical sites and vibrant communities, and capture breathtaking landscapes with your camera. The Chepe travels a scenic route spanning 653 kilometers from Chihuahua to Los Mochis. One of the highlights of this route is the breathtaking Copper Canyon, considered one of nature's greatest wonders. This awe-inspiring destination is worth experiencing and will leave you in complete admiration.

The Chepe Train

The tourist train is now referred to as the "Chepe Express." This luxury train runs daily from Creel to Los Mochis. On the other hand, the "Chepe Regional" is the regular train. The Chepe Regional runs three times per week between the whole route between Chihuahua and Los Mochis. 

The Chepe Regional offers a journey through 13 stations, including the cities of Chihuahua and Los Mochis, alongside towns nestled in the picturesque Sierra Tarahumara. It is important to note that only the Chepe Regional allows access to these stops.

The Chepe Express only stops at four stations, and these four stations are the most visited and sought-after destinations for tourists.

Creel - Divisadero - El Fuerte - Los Mochis

The Chepe Express is a luxury train designed for tourists seeking a comfortable experience. Its passenger cars are equipped with 60 ergonomic and reclining seats spread across six carriages. The Chepe Express offers additional services, such as an onboard restaurant serving traditional dishes, a bar with high-definition screens, and a terrace offering panoramic views through folding windows.

About Chepe Route

The Chepe Train takes you on a scenic journey through the majestic Sierra Tarahumara. The train route includes crossing the Copper Canyon, which consists of mountains and canyons up to 4 times more extensive than the famous Grand Canyon of Colorado in the United States. In certain areas, the depth of Copper Canyon surpasses 1 mile (1.6 km)! The railroad from Chihuahua to Los Mochis passes through 87 tunnels and 37 bridges. 

Places to visit along the Chihuahua Train Route

The journey aboard the Chepe Regional starts in the vibrant city of Chihuahua, known for its rich history and delectable cuisine. While in Chihuahua, take some time to explore the fascinating historical attractions and experience the warm hospitality of the locals.

Cable Car Divisadero - Copper Canyon Railway

Another must-visit destination on the route is Creel, a charming small town in the Sierra Tarahumara. This stop is popular among tourists thanks to its breathtaking views of cascading waterfalls and majestic mountains.

When traveling on the Chepe Express, be sure to make a stop at Divisadero station, which is the main highlight of the route. Here, you can witness the breathtaking Copper Canyon and capture its beauty through photographs and videos. In addition to taking in the natural scenery, you can recharge by indulging in some delicious food or shopping for souvenirs.

Divisadero station offers more than just spectacular views – there are plenty of additional attractions to explore! Take a thrilling ride on cable cars, bikes, zip lines, or climb walls.

Located in the heart of the Tarahumara Sierra, Bahuichivo station (Chepe Regional) is a perfect starting point to explore two charming small towns: Cerocahui and Urique. Organized walks will take you through beautiful trails if you're looking for an excuse to immerse yourself in nature. One must-see destination is the incredible views of Cerro Gallego, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of the stunning Urique town.
