We start this grand tour of Brazil in Salvador de Bahia, among the most culturally diverse cities in Brazil and home of a bustling colonial center where frequent cultural events are held. We’ll then fly to Vitoria, from which we’ll commence a nearly 700-km train trip through lush countryside to Belo Horizonte, the capital city of the southeastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, a veritable paradise of Museum Railways. The first from Ouro Preto to Mariana, and then another from Tiradentes to Sao Joao del Rei.
In Rio de Janeiro, we’ll explore numerous sights in this vibrant, historic city and also visit the nearby Sugarloaf and Corcovado mountains. Next, we’ll continue our southward journey on Brazil’s most famous tourist train of all, a rail trip from Curitiba to Moretes through breathtaking tropical mountain scenery. After that, we’ll ride on a glorious museum steam train from Campinas to Jaguariuna and arrive at our final destination, Sao Paulo. We will explore the city and visit Paranapiacaba, which hosts a fascinating old Funicular System. You will also have the option of traveling from Sao Paulo to visit the spectacular Iguazu Falls.
